I’ve tried a lot of foundations throughout the years including Maybelline Dream Mousse Matte Foundation (a favourite during my teenage years), the Benefit Play Stick, Loreal’s True Match Foundation, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, Rimmel London Stay Matte, Revlon Colour Stay and many, many others. Some I liked more than others but ultimately I was never that impressed that I stuck with one product or one brand. Now I’m about to delve into my third bottle of the lovely lightweight Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup from Clinique in Fair 5 (£22.50) and I thought I’d share with you why.
Clinque’s Stay-Matte Makeup is the first foundation I have remained impressed with and stayed loyal to in a very long time, I always seem to be searching for better coverage, a more complimentary shade and a formula that doesn’t dry out or add oil to my temperamental ‘combination’ type skin. My nose area and chin can be oily at times and are prone to spots, although my cheeks, forehead and eye area often become dry and sensitive, as can the oily areas if I use products that are too harsh.
Clinque’s Stay-Matte ‘gel/cream’ formula is very lightweight, it barely feels like i’m wearing anything at all! Apparently it controls oil by absorbing any nasty shine caused by heat or humidity throughout the day. It gives a lovely matte finish that is very long lasting and helps my skin to look flawless. The foundation has a ‘sheer to moderate’ coverage so I also use my Bo-ing concealer by Benefit (see full review) to hide the slight discolouration and marks on my chin from previous blemishes I had when I was a teenager, so far its oil free formula has really helped to control any new breakouts.
That being said they are a few foundations on my wishlist i’d love to try out of sheer curiosity like the cult classic Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup (£29.50) and newbie bareMinerals bareSkin Pre Brightening Serum Foundation (£26), however I don’t see this happening any time soon… perhaps Santa will treat me?
