It’s Birchbox time again and be warned mega spoilers are about to come your way! I had a few (okay a lot of) mixed feelings about March’s Habitat collaboration but with the promise of a Laura Mercier product I had high expectations for April’s edition.
The Royally Good box is inspired by the arrival of royal baby #2 and includes not 5, but 6 luxe beauty and lifestyle samples! My beautifully packaged box featured pastel blue birds with silver details, although other subscribers may have received a pink version. Inside contains Birchbox’s signature cotton drawstring bag, the usual accompanying literature with typically pretty artwork (product info & postcard from the editor) and a competition to guess the gender of the royal baby in order to win a bumper beauty bundle. So more importantly what samples were included in this month’s box…
Laura Mercier Mascara
This month customers were able to select either a Laura Mercier foundation primer, mascara or eye pencil. Unfortunately I was too slow and missed out on the primer as it sold out incredibly quickly. My next choice was the Full Blown Volume Supreme mascara. As you can see from the photo below the mascara added considerable volume, length and thickness to my lashes. The thick, easy to use wand fanned my lashes out to create a wide-eyed effect, picking up even the smallest of lashes and easily coating them in the thick highly pigmented, clump free formula. The Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Mascara retails at £19.50 at John Lewis.
Percy & Reed London Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational No Oil Oil
This multitasking hair treatment is designed for fine hair. It aims to nourish and repair damaged hair creating sleek and silky locks without weighing hair down. The ultra light weight water-based formula gives a mirror like shine whilst boosting the hair’s resistance to frizz and humidity. It’s a shame I keep receiving hair products designed for fine hair such as January’s Philip Kingley Body Building Conditioner as my hair is extremely thick so volumising products don’t really interest me. With this being said I tried this on the lengths of my hair and it did leave my hair noticeably smoother and softer. The Percy & Reed No Oil Oil is available at Feel Unique and retails for £14/60ml.
Lola Barcelona Nail Polish in Garcia
This full-size sample was created exclusively with Lola Barcelona (not a brand I’m familiar with) for Birchbox this hot fuchsia nail varnish is the perfect glossy pink shade for spring. Formulated with diamond dust to provide extra strength and durability. I applied my usual base and top coat (OPI Start to Finish Base Coat, Top Coat & Strengthener £14.50/15ml) and layered on two coats to create a bold girly look. The Lola Barcelona nail polishes retail for £7.50 and are available to purchase at the Birchbox online store.
Pommade Divine Nature’s Remedy Balm
To be honest I wasn’t exactly sure what this was or what it did at first. This natural multi-purpose balm is formulated with 97% natural ingredients to soothe, calm and protect dry, sensitive skin. The balm can be used on minor burns, abrasions & bruises, to deeply moisturise dry, itchy skin or to nourish chapped lips, hands and rough heels. It also helps to reduces the likelihood of scaring and contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory ingredients. So far I’ve only used this miracle balm on my lips which helped to keep them hydrated and soft. The Remedy Balm retails for £19.80/50ml at Pommade Divine’s online shop.
Inner Me Energise Me Supplements
I do love a good lifestyle product and this month’s this very pretty little box contains a 4 week supply of ‘energising’ capsules. Each capsule is packed full of a special blend of vitamins and minerals to help support energy metabolism and maintain overall good health. They contain magnesium to combat fatigue and tiredness and Chromium to regulate blood sugar levels. I’ll keep you updated on my progress with these supplements in the upcoming weeks. The Inner Me Energise Me Supplements retail for £15 at lookfantastic.com.
Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish + Muslin Cloth
And finally my favourite sample of the month the cult-classic, award winning Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish cleanser. Suitable for all skin types this rich, creamy cleanser contains rosemary, chamomile, cocoa butter and eucalyptus essential oil to gently remove impurities effortlessly and leave skin beautifully soft, hydrated and nourished after it’s very first use. Simply massage the cream into dry skin and buff away with the pure muslin cloth provided to stimulate circulation and leave skin looking radiant and healthy. I promise you that this little tube is unbelievable, it’s a beauty editor favourite for a reason!0
