Last weekend I was asked to check out Tweet Chic, an event showcasing spring/summer 2015 fashion from high street retailers such as New Look, French Connection, Quiz, Ness and many others. The event took place in the Overgate Shopping Centre in Dundee from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March at 11am to 4pm each day. I used to live in Dundee so I jumped at the chance to return and see how it’s £1 billion redevelopment was coming along and visit the shopping centre were I spent the majority of my student loan in for years! Believe me when I tell you that the Overgate is simply shopping heaven! I love looking through the beautiful rails in French Connection (although I very rarely have the enough pennies to indulge myself), wander around the heavenly scented displays in Lush and hit every single beauty counter in Debenhams. I was so excited to see that MAC is finally coming to Debenhams this month! I can’t believe it’s taken so long. My review on my latest MAC additions, Shy Girl and the legendary Creme Cup are coming up soon so make sure you keep an eye out for them.
So throughout the day Bryan, our very enthusiastic and friendly presenter, interviewed representatives and stylists from many different fashion stores (New Look is featured below), discussing latest fashion trends and how to dress for your body shape. They discussed how this season is heavily influenced by the 70’s; floppy hats, headscarves, off the shoulder tops are all going to big this season. I loved this as the hippy look is always a winner come festival season.

Customers were encouraged to Tweet, Facebook and Instagram about their Tweet Chic experience which were all displayed on screens in the mall. Plus they had the chance to enter hourly competitions by tweeting or instagramming their #tweetchic selfies.
Models performed fashion (and dance) routines on the hour around the centre. They trotted down the escalators to the ground floor and burst into a Bruno Mars inspired performance right in the middle of the shopping mall! In the photo below the two lovely ladies on the right are wearing gorgeous gowns from Quiz and the models to the far left wore pieces from French Connection who were offering a 15% discount on all featured garments.
I was most impressed with the two giant Magic Mirrors at both sides of the stage. The mirrors allowed shoppers to take full length pictures of themselves and ‘try on’ a range of beautiful garments superimposed on their body as they looked into the mirror! This definitely takes the hassle out of busy dressing rooms situations that’s for sure. I ‘tried’ on a beautiful trench coat from Ness who were offering a 10% discount on their collection of purses and handbags on the day.
There were also beauty and skincare demonstrations from the ladies of Superdrug, showcasing the beauty brand – B. Their pink and white balloon covered stall displayed the entire B. collection and I spent ages playing around with lots of products – my hands were covered lipstick and eyeshadow swatches! All products were half price on the day so I picked up the B. Pure Micellar Water (150ml) for only £2.48 and my mum picked up their B. Radiant Rejuvenating Serum (30ml) reduced from £13.99 to £6.98.
I loved how interactive and social media friendly this event was. It really encouraged customers to have fun with fashion whilst showcasing some gorgeous pieces from affordable high street retailers. The staff involved were so friendly and approachable and, although I didn’t win any prizes, I loved the competitions and discounts that were on offer throughout the day. Not only was I introduced to the B. beauty collection this weekend, I was introduced to this seasons latest trends and a wide range of SS15 collections currently on the high street.
