After last month’s disappointing Hollywood Icon Edition (full review here) I cancelled my Glossybox subscription once again, so imagine my confusion when this came though my door yesterday morning! I checked my Paypal account and I had indeed been charged. Not great. In my opinion Glossybox isn’t a patch on my beloved Birchbox and You Beauty Discovery boxes. Anyway, while my subscription is getting dealt with here’s my short and sweet surprise Glossybox unboxing and first impressions post…
When I first opened the box I wasn’t exactly blown away. I see no connection to the ‘Summer’s Calling’ theme and even though my box contained five samples, three of which were full sized, I’m not really excited about the product choice this month either. My samples included the MeMeMe Enchanted Eyes Dual Ended Eye Wand (worth £6.95), Etre Belle Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturising Gel, Zerreau Towel Off Shampoo Foam, Nails Inc Nail Polish in Brunton Street and a full sized Q Body Spay.
The Zerreau Towel Off Shampoo Foam came in a very generous 70ml sample bottle and claims to be “the next generation of dry shampoo”, allowing you to wash your hair without the need of water! Simply apply the foam directly to you scalp and massage it in to lift dirt and grease, and then towel dry. The foam itself smells of apples and leaves hair soft and fresh. Hair feels noticeably cleaner and smells amazing once applied. A great little product for a long haul flight or when your hair’s in dire need of a pick-me-up at a moments notice.
The full sized Q Body Spray (£2.29/100ml) has a floral scent (iris and mimosa) that’s not exactly modern. A nice product but nothing particularly special, it’s just your basic body spray that I can’t see myself wearing often.
The Etre Belle Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturising Gel is apparently another full sized product even though it’s only 40ml! This little tube retails for £15.93 and provides “instant rescue when skin needs a little TLC”. Once again, I’m not overly keen on the scent, it reminds me of the smell that comes from my gran’s toiletry cupboard in her bathroom, were she keeps her Astral cream and floral body lotions. It is very soothing on the skin so I can see this making a brilliant after-sun (I think I’m starting to get the Summer holiday’s connection!). It left my very soft and hydrated, I can see this getting thrown in my suitcase in a few weeks time!
Another full sized sample, the MeMeMe Enchanted Eyes Dual Ended Eye Wand (phew that’s a mouth full) is worth £6.95, so overall you can’t ignore that this box has been great value for money. Blue liner is not a look I can see myself buying into anytime soon. Each side contains a chunky pencil-like applicator in a blue tone. The formula is very creamy, gliding onto the eye with minimal effort. I nice product, but shame about the shade choice!
And finally, the product I got most excited about, a tiny bottle (4ml) of ‘brunton street’ by Nail Inc, a romantic dusky rose shade. Two coats of this polish gives an ultra glossy nail with no streaks.
