Birchbox Collaboration with French Sole | Review & Unboxing

This month’s Birchbox features a collaboration with chic ballet shoe favourite, French Sole. I’ve never heard of this company before but I’m not very fashion savvy so that might be why. The French Sole collection features a selection of cute flat shoes starting from around £65 for a basic pair of ballet pumps. There are three limited edition boxes to choose from this month including the From Paris With Love, Floral Daze and Pick ‘n’ Mix designs. Each box also comes with a pretty matching shoe bag inside.

This month my box included; an English Laundry No7 perfume sample, Cowshed Knackered Cow Body Lotion, NUDE ProGenious Omega Treatment Oil, Beauty Protector Hair Oil x2, ModelCo Power Lash Mascara, STYLondon Temporary Metallic Tattoos and a French Sole shoe bag.

First up, the English Laundry No. 7 for Her perfume is a pretty, light fragrance perfect for summer. The blend is ‘tweaked’ from the original No. 7 for men and is a Birchbox exclusive. English Laundry by Christopher Wicks is available their online store, retailing for £60/50ml.

As for the extra beauty bonus this month, the metallic tattoos from STYLondon, I can’t really see myself using these. They seem to be THE accessory this Summer but I’m not a fan of the strip designs I was given, I’ll probably give these to someone else.

This is my first review of four ModelCo products that I’ve been lucky enough to snap up thanks to the full-sized freebies in this months Glamour magazine. The Power Lash Black Mascara by ModelCo gives an intense black coating to my fair lashes, defining and lengthening them.

I found that the formula clumped a little on my lashes at first, but after gently sweeping these out I was really impressed with the results. The above photo is only one coat of mascara and this wide-eyed glamorous look lasted all day.

The NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil is an anti-aging, nourishing oil formulated with a blend natural plant oils and omegas. Only 2 or 3 drops are needed at a time which makes the little bottle super long lasting, which is great considering a full sized bottle (30ml) retails for £58. First impressions? The rich oil gives an instant boost of hydration, although the scent isn’t the most pleasant and I found that it tends to sit on the skin leaving a slight residue. I can see myself wearing this at night as an intense overnight treatment as I found it a little heavy to wear during the day.

I was given two small glass bottles of the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil this month. I was a bit wary of using an oil on my hair as it’s prone to being quite greasy but nevertheless, I gave it a go. I applied 3 drops of the oil into my damp hair before styling. My hair definitely looked a lot more glossy once it was dry. The lightweight oil left no residue and left my hair smelling heavenly. I was also pleased to read that the oil protects against UV rays and heat damage!

I love the very generous sample of Cowshed’s Knackered Cow body lotion in this month’s box. The lotion contains the relaxing essential oils of lavender and eucalyptus to help stress-heads like me relax and unwind after a busy day. There are no parabens, petrochemicals, or artificial colours in this wholesome concoction and it’s also suitable for vegetarians. This lightweight, moisturising lotion is super soothing and fragrant, perfect for applying at night before bedtime to help drift into a gentle, natural sleep.

Overall I think this box is pretty average. I noticed that other bloggers received REN and Balance Me products this month, so I was a little disappointed when I began to compare my box with others. I can’t see myself using the tattoos or shoe bag, however, I loved the Model Co mascara and Cowshed body lotion. I did think there might be a promo code or some kind of discount for French Sole included in this month’s box. This partnership seemed a little contrived like March’s disastrous Habitat collaboration. The choice of box was a nice touch I guess, but to be honest, it’s just a box! I would rather choose my own products than another packaging gimmick. What are your thoughts on this month’s box?
