Last week the lovely people at Tesco Beauty (@BeautyatTesco) give Twitter followers the chance to claim a free gift from either Max Factor or Olay. I chose the Max Factor option and thought I would receive a little sample in a few weeks time and completely forgot about it. You could imagine my delight when this full-sized False Lash Effect Mascara (RRP £10) arrived on my doorstep this morning – thanks Tesco!
The best-selling False Lash Effect Mascara in Black comes with Max Factor’s biggest ever brush, with 50% more bristles than ever before. The sleek black and gold packaging is what I have come to expect from Max Factor; their products always seem to have a sophisticated, iconic look about them.
I applied the carbon black formula by looking down, and working the wand from side-to-side, from root to tip as I always do. The mascara fanned out my lashes, adding volume and glamour without being too over-the-top. This mascara gives a lovely wide-eyed effect whilst still looking soft and natural. The formula is very lightweight and gives lashes a pretty, Marilyn Monroe style flutter.
My lashes are very fair and pretty sparse, so I tend to use mascaras that give a more dramatic look than the one I achieved above, such as Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde mascara and Maybelline’s Lash Sensation. If you’re looking for a more voluminous, high-impact, ‘false lash’ effect, I think you will find this product slightly underwhelming considering the price tag. However, if you’re looking for fuller, natural lashes with no flaking, smudging or clumping, then this mascara is definitely for you.
The Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara is available here and retails for £10.
