The lovely people over at Urban Fruit* sent me a box full of delicious and 100% natural goodies, perfect for munching on this Summer. Made with fruit that’s been hand-picked in season and gently baked, these tasty treats contain no sulphites, added sugars or nasty concentrates, making them a wholesome and nutritious snack full of goodness.
The Urban Fruit collection come in either 35g snack bags or 90/100g sharing packs. They feature a variety of flavours including ‘Tremendously Tropical’, ‘Magnificent Mango’, ‘Perfect Pineapple’, ‘Superberry Blueberry & Blackcurrant’, ‘Awesome Apple & Pear, ‘Brilliant Banana’ and ‘Cheeky Cherry’. All varieties are also gluten free, suitable for vegans, low in fat and high in fibre – what more could you ask for?
I was really interested in working with Urban Fruit, as a serial snacker trying to look after her figure for the Summer holidays, the snack bags sounded too good to be true! Each 35g bag only contains 100-103 calories, contains 1 of your 5 a day and claim to not only satisfy your sweet cravings but also keep you fuller for longer! I just had to put them to the test…
So I’ll start with my two absolute favourites the ‘Cheeky Cherry’ and ‘Smashing Strawberry’ sharing packs (90g). I have to admit, I didn’t share them but I don’t feel too guilty this. The ‘Cheeky Cherry’ pack contains sticky little gems packed full of flavour and the ‘Smashing Strawberry’ pack features juicy, sweet strawberries. I have to admit, the shrivelled strawberries are definitely not the prettiest of creatures, but in my opinion, they’re the yummiest out the bunch. I threw both packets in my handbag and nibbled at them throughout the day, during break times and in-between meals to satisfy my junk food cravings.
Next up the ‘Tremendously Tropical’ sharing bag containing fresh, ripe and seasonal varieties of mango, coconut, pineapple and banana. This delicious combination of gently baked mixed fruits is the perfect, light Summer snack. Although I adore the strawberry and cherry packs, it’s nice to have a bit of variety during the day. The chewy banana is almost toffee-like, the coconut is refreshing, the mango is tough but juicy and the pineapple is sweet and tangy.
And finally the Magnificent Mango and Perfect Pineapple sharing and snack packs. What is so special about mangoes and pineapples? Well, did you know that Mangoes are rich in Vitamin A which makes skin soft and pineapples contain an important enzyme that aids digestional health? The pineapple variety was my favourite of the two as I found the mango strips quite tough. Munching on both these packets instead of my normal chocolate and crisp fix was an easy transition to make as they both helped satisfyingly my sweet tooth and kept me full in between meals. I also used them as a cereal topper to liven up my breakfast time.
I am really impressed with this delicious range of gently baked fruit. I definitely agree with its claims, I felt fuller for longer and it helped satisfy my cravings for all things sweet. As well as the taste, I also love the design of the packaging. Let’s be honest, dried fruit can come across as a bit of a boring product, designed for the older, more health-conscious customer. Urban Fruit have totally reinvented it! Healthy eating doesn’t have to be all serious. I love their fun, lighthearted approach to living a healthier lifestyle. My only criticism is that I found myself wishing the sharing packs came in a resealable bag or with a sticker to prevent them from spilling in my handbag, that’s only because I didn’t want to lose a single morsel of these delicious, mouth-watering snacks!
The Urban Fruit range is available in most supermarkets including ASDA, Waitrose and Tesco. Check out the Urban Fruit website here for a rundown of all the nutritional info you need and to take a peek at other products in their fabulous collection.
