Now that my wedding has come and gone, I can start sharing with you all the handmade finishing touches and lovely suppliers and vendors that helped to make my day so special. Today I’m sharing with you my handmade and affordable wedding favours. As I’ve said before, mention the word ‘wedding’ to any store or online retailer and you are guaranteed to receive an eye-watering bill or quote that was triple the amount you budgeted for! Don’t forget to read my What Wedding Planning has Taught Me – Budgeting post for some tips to avoid this. Making your own favours and decorations is a great way to save money and make your day more personal. I think some people believe this sounds a bit stressful and time-consuming – but it doesn’t have to be! I brought in the bridesmaids to help and even had a leisurely cocktail called a Hugo (prosecco, elderflower wine, mint & lime if you’re wondering) in my hand throughout!
What you will need:
Hexagonal Jars (110ml) – I found mine on Amazon for £14.40 (plus P&P) for 36.
Ribbon – I used x2 Cream Ribbon (10mm wide & 10m long).
Personalised ‘Love is Sweet’ Stickers – Available on Ebay for only £2.94 for 40.
Fabric – I used Vintage Laura Ashley squared (10cm x 10cm) also on Ebay.
A selection of sweets from ASDA and Tesco.
And elastic bands…
I think you can pretty much guess how we made these! We simply filled the jars with dolly mixtures and strawberry bonbons, secured the fabric (no need to cut to size) with an elastic band, tied the ribbon (that was the tricky part) and finished with a sticker. They looked really cute at everyone’s place setting! For my night guests, I made something a little bit different. I found an old picnic basket and filled cute blue and white candy striped bags with all the leftover sweeties and sealed with ‘Thank You’ craft stickers. The basket sat beside my guest book with a heart shaped blackboard sign that read “Sign our guestbook and help yourself to a sweet treat”.
