You Beauty Discovery Box Travel Edition | Review & Unboxing

There are so many monthly beauty boxes out there that finding the right one for you can be tricky. Don’t forget to check out my Little Guide to Beauty Boxes post for a run down of a few of my favourites. I’ve subscribed, cancelled and subscribed again to many different boxes over the years, including Birchbox, Glossybox and My Little Box. The You Beauty Discovery Box, which retails at £6.95 (this includes P&P) is by far my favourite of the lot. YBD is a monthly subscription box that can be cancelled at any time. Every month YBD delivers a beautifully packaged beauty box straight to your door containing 2 personally selected deluxe beauty products from their monthly shortlist, plus a number of added extras. In the last couple of months I have received a full-sized bottle of Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Lacquer, Magnifibres mascara and two Illamasqua Glamore Lipsticks worth £18.50! To see what was included in last months ‘Beauty Heroes’ box click here. Let’s take a look at this month’s shortlist…

The July YOU Travel box shortlist featured:

Wild About Beauty Nutrilips Colour Lipstick (3.5g)

Vinchy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 (30ml) & Idealia Life Serum (3ml)

Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo & Conditioner Duo (20ml each)

Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm (15ml)

Nip + FabBody Slim Fix (45ml)

Love Your Skin London Collagen Hand & Body Moisturising Gel (30ml)

Lola Makeup by Perse Nail Polish in Stone Grey (11ml)

Hairy Jayne Citrus Hair perfume (30ml)

This month I chose the Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo & Conditioner Duo (20ml each) and Nip + FabBody Slim Fix (45ml), and also received a 50ml sample of the new St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion, Emma Hardie Protect & Prime and Nairn’s Muesli Break Oatcake.

These little travel sized samples are perfect for popping in your hand luggage if you’re off on your holidays this Summer. The Philip Kingsley shampoo and conditioner (£17/250ml) gently cleanse and balance hair whilst providing moisture at drier ends. The duo transform dry and damaged hair into super smooth shiny locks, leaving hair healthy and beautiful. Both contain wheat protein to deliver the correct balance of moisture, leaving hair more manageable and a natural antistatic conditioning barrier to help smooth the hair’s cuticle to improve combing and condition. The formula is also very lightweight so doesn’t leave any nasty residue that weighs down hair so my hair looks and feels soft and bouncy.

The Nip + Fab Dragon Blood Fix Plumping Mask is one of my all-time favourite skincare products, so I’m really excited to try Body Slim out. Body Slim Fix (£14.99/200ml) claims that it’s fast acting fitness formula hydrates and tones the skin, refining and sculpting the body’s contours for a firmer, slimmer and more toned appearance. I know what your thinking, sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? After one application I’ve yet to witness any miraculous results, further use and time may tell – I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

So this is the product I was most excited to try this month; the new innovation in at home self-tanning, the St Tropez Gradual Tan In-Shower Lotion (£14.50/200ml). With a waiting list of over 8,500 the In-Shower Lotion was one of the most anticipated skincare releases of 2015. Simply shower, pop out and rub a generous amount into your damp skin in circular movements, wait for 3 minutes and then jump back in to wash off. I didn’t really see any difference the first time I used it, but gradually I started to develop a subtle glow with no streaks! Some may find the results too subtle but I loved the natural glow it gave especially to my legs. There was no lingering sickly smell to worry about and there were no dry patches around my ankles or elbows! I’m really impressed with this product and will definitely be stocking up for my holidays.

Any finally, two more added treats this month. To be honest I wasn’t a fan of either. I found that Protect and Prime left a slightly oily texture to my skin and in no way helped my makeup to stay in place, which is really the primary function of a primer isn’t it? The muesli oatcake was too dry for me and I wasn’t too keen on the taste. Regardless of these two disappointing extras, I am once again really impressed with the You Beauty Discovery Box. It really is leaving Glossybox and Birchbox behind in its dust in my opinion.
