A few weeks ago, for some reason, I really struggled to get to sleep. Night after night, I lay wide awake counting down the hours on my phone next to me and restlessly trying to get comfy so I could successfully nod off, with no luck whatsoever. Of course, I finally dozed off, but I woke up still exhausted and very irritable. Personally, I’ve always found the herbal scent of Lavender calming and soothing so I decided to have a good dig around my collection of lotions and potions to find some products that could help.
Sweet Dreams Bath Oil £10.95/100ml
The Sweet Dreams Bath Oil from Tisserand Aromatherapy is enriched with skin pampering coconut, sweet almond and jojoba oil; all natural moisturisers. The bath time treat is also rich in vitamins and antioxidants. It’s calming and serene scent is a combination of Lavender, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang oil. Just a few drops of this oil swirled around in warm bath water fills the entire bathroom with its comforting aroma. In a bath, surrounded by candles, this oil gently helps me to relax and unwind before bedtime encouraging a deep, natural sleep. This oil is also free from parabens and synthetic fragrances. The Sweet Dreams formula is also available in a body oil and convenient roller ball.
Out Tiny Bees are purveyors of naturally effective skincare and candles using 100% British beeswax and honey. They work directly with British beekeepers and bee farmers to carefully harvest honey and beeswax, which is then used in their product range. This little tin of their bestselling Lavender Hand Balm (£7.95) has been an absolute godsend this month. My hands are pretty dry and sore right now due to the freezing cold weather so I carry this pot around with me constantly. Only a tiny amount of this effective balm helps relieve chapped hands by softening and nourishing them from the very first use. The balm is rich in almond, rosehip seed, oat, coconut & lavender oils, vitamin E, honey and beeswax. Not only does it provide instant relief for my poor wee hands, once again, the lavender smells heavenly and popping some of this onto a tissue to inhale is a great way to promote a serene and relaxed mood.
Cowshed’s Knackered Cow Body Lotion £20/300ml
I actually picked this up in TK Maxx months ago and remember it being a bit of a bargain at the time. The lotion contains the relaxing essential oils of lavender and eucalyptus to help stress-heads like me unwind after a busy day. There are no parabens, petrochemicals, or artificial colours in this wholesome concoction and it’s also suitable for vegetarians. This lightweight, moisturising lotion is super soothing and fragrant, perfect for applying at night before bedtime to help drift into a gentle and, you’ve guessed it, natural sleep.
There you have it, my three all natural, cruelty-free, lavender infused must haves to help drift off to the land of nod. These three products, along with cosy socks, a caramel hot chocolate and a long soak in the tub, really helped sort out my restless sleeping habits. I also tried (tried being the keyword) to ban all screens (TV, phones & laptops) at least an hour before bedtime which I think also helped. Do you have any natural remedies or tips on how to have a good nights sleep? Please share them in the comments section below.
