The Beautiful Bluebird Awards 2015 | Skincare Edit

Buying new skincare products is one of my ultimate weaknesses. I’ve been lucky enough work with a variety of skincare brands this year and indulge in a few of my own purchases along the way. Here are my favourite skincare treats that I was so impressed with I decided to repurchase…

Best Facial Oil – ModelCo Rosehip Luxury Facial Oil (£15/17ml)
One of the stars of Natural Beauty Week back in October, ModelCo is a brand that really surprised me. These two indulgent oils from their cruelty-free skincare collection absorb into the skin effortlessly leaving it feeling soft and rejuvenated. The formula is surprisingly lightweight and doesn’t clog my pores or irritate my combination skin. The combination of vitamin E, Damask Rose, Rose Geranium, Rosehip and Lavender oil smell heavenly and work in unison over night to help keep my skin hydrated and looking radiant.

Best Face Mask – Merumaya Mud Marvels Mask (£19.50/50ml)
The Mud Marvels Mask contains a combination of activated charcoal, ground volcanic ash, purifying kaolin and bentonite to draw out impurities, oils and toxins deep from the pores. The very thick, rich formula also contains a natural AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) complex that exfoliates by removing the top layer of dead skin cells allowing for better penetration of the treatment and to reveal the newer, more youthful cells below. A complex of nourishing oils, including sweet almond oil and oat oil (which are rich in antioxidants and vitamins), and cocoa butter, help to improve moisture retention and suppleness.

I found that the mask dries incredibly quickly and doesn’t give the sensitive areas of my face (cheeks and under eye) that itchy, tight feeling similar products have in the past. It washes off easily with minimal input and fuss. My skin instantly appears brighter and feels cleaner and softer. What I love about this mask is that it clearly detoxifies and gives a deep cleanse without stripping the skin of its nutrients and moisture. Mud and clay based masks often have me running for an intensive moisturiser, however, my skin feels comfortable, brighter and plumper after each treatment. I also haven’t suffered from any breakouts since adding this mask into my skincare regime.

Runners up –
Lush’s Cupcake Face Mask – A thick chocolate mask great for zapping breakouts.
Nip + Fab Dragon’s Blood Fixing Mask – The perfect 10-minute pick-me-up that makes skin appear plumper and brighter.

Best Cleanser - Bee Good Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser (£11.50/100ml)

Best Cleanser – Bee Good Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser (£11.50/100ml)
Another product from my Natural Beauty Week series, Bee Good’s innovative products contain ethically sourced bee-ingredients, meaning that their bees are never harmed. They are very passionate when it comes to supporting British bees, not only do they give a percentage of their proceeds back to beekeeping causes and the apprenticeship and education of young bee farmers in the UK, with every order placed on their website, they also include a little pack of Seed Balls, each containing around 100 seeds of various bee-friendly plants. Bee Good take natural beauty to a whole other level

Only a little of the thick creamy formula is needed, but I have to admit I can’t resist generously slathering this on. The cleanser removes all the built up grime in just a few gentle swipes with a muslin cloth, gently exfoliating the skin to ensure a thorough clean whilst lifting all traces of makeup. Everytime I use it I can’t help but compare it to the iconic Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser; the similarities really are astounding. I love how this makes my skin feel; nourished, soft, smooth and very, very, clean.

Runners up –
Time Bomb Take-Off Time Cleansing Cream – A gentle, exfoliating cleanser.
Superdrug Hot Cloth Vitamin E Cleanser – Another budget Liz Earle dupe.
Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm – A luxurious balm that melts into your skin like silk, emulsifying makeup and dirt whilst nurturing and softening.

Best Serum – Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster (£18/15ml)
Expect a lot of posts raving about Ole Henriksen in the new year. I was treated to a few of their products at Christmas and simply fell in love with their collection. It all started with this tiny glass bottle of their best-selling Truth Serum that I chose randomly from August’s You Beauty Discovery Box shortlist. The serum is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that never fail to bring my tired, dull skin back to life. My skin looks glowing after applying this miracle serum and it’s citrusy scent smells divine! My skin has felt more nourished and looked more youthful since adding the Truth Serum to my skincare regime. I love it so much I have just purchased two more bottles in the Feel Unique sale.

Best Moisturiser – Bannatyne Spa Collection Replenishing Day Moisturiser (£24.99)
Finally, we have a moisturiser which I have been using for way over a year. It keeps my skin soft and hydrated all day. It absorbs easily and leaves my skin feeling plumper, softer and more supple. I have yet to try a moisturiser that is so effective, although for my Christmas I received the Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream and the Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Creme – could one of these possibly knock this trusty product off my top spot in the New Year?
