Running out of time to book that Christmas manicure but still want to be all polished and sparkly for the big day? Don’t worry, help is at hand. To me, a Christmas manicure must be two things: bright red and extremely sparkly. Today I’ll be looking at a few of the products I use to pamper and protect my festive fingers.
One of the biggest issues I have with my nails right now is how weak and brittle they have become since having Penny so wearing a nourishing base coat is a total must, plus it helps to avoid staining when using such bright shades of nail polish. I usually use my trusty Nail Inc NailKale Basecoat or OPI Start to Finish, however, at around £15 they’re a little on the pricey side so I was delighted to receive this bottle of ‘All in One’ from Nail HQ London which retails for only £5.99 on Amazon.
All in One is a ‘multi-solution’ product designed to help provide the moisture balance necessary to have flexible nails and prevent brittleness and breakage. The little plastic bottle contains natural ingredients such as Argan Oil, Acai Berry and a mineral complex that keeps the nail hydrated, protect it from acrylic abuse and help promote growth. It can be worn under nail polish or on it’s own. It dries in seconds and keeps my nails looking healthy and strong. The Nail HQ London collection also includes a Gel Top Coat, Ridge Filler and Cuticle Oil all available on Amazon.
My perfect red is Action! from the Jessica Custom Color collection. It’s extremely pigmented with a high gloss finish and brightening orange undertones which go beautifully with one of my favourite MAC lipsticks; Vegas Volt. Normally retailing for around £10.99, I found a bottle reduced at TKMaxx for only £2.99. They also stock OPI, Essie, Illamasqua and Ciate polishes, I definitely recommend visiting your local branch and having a rummage.
For added sparkle I used a No7 polish that is now sadly discontinued, however, I’ve heard that both Barry M and Essie have a similar product that works just as well.
I then sealed my nails with Revlon’s Colorstay Diamond Top Coat. I haven’t used this product in years and I was actually a bit disappointed with it. It didn’t increase the longevity of my nails at all. When it comes to top coats you really can’t beat OPI’s Start to Finish. It may be expensive but it’s a great all rounder and worth every penny.
