Did you catch my favourite products of 2016 post? It’s available here if you missed it. My favourite makeup brands last year included NYX, Urban Decay, Soap & Glory and, surprisingly, The Body Shop. Unfortunately, two of these brands also feature in my list of disappointing products.
My first product is from Kiko Milano. Their Kiko Graphic Gaze Marker from the limited-edition Neo Noir collection was my first experience of the ball-tipped eyeliner trend. I mean, if eyeliner wasn’t already hard enough to apply, right? Rimmel and L’Oreal also released similar products this year and even though I understand that this ‘innovative’ shape allows you to create dots for “graphic makeup looks”, it makes application messy and uneven.
The bane of my life is purchasing foundations and base products online. They are always way too dark or orangy, and this was the case for the ‘translucent’ Collection Pressed Powder and LA Girl BB Cream in Light. Two products that don’t seem to grasp the concept of light and translucent. The powder was chalky and left an orange cast and the BB cream could only be saved with my trusty Lightening Drops from The Body Shop.
Three disappointing palettes I purchased this year include the Soap & Glory Kick into Neutral Palette, Rimmel London Magnif’eyes Contouring Palette and the NYX Dream Catcher Palette in Golden Horizons. The pigmentation on all three was very poor, with the NYX Dream Catcher being the poorest. There was next to no colour pay off in all three, with the exception of a few of the darker shimmer shades in the Rimmel palette.
Finally, one of the most disappointing launches of the year was the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick Collection. They were drying, chalky, settled into every crease onto my lips and eventually cracked and flaked throughout the day. The range of shades looked beautiful, unfortunately, the formula irritated my lips and was patchy and uneven.
