I am so far way from achieving domestic goddess status in the kitchen that it’s laughable. When Gousto got in touch and asked if I’d like to try out one of their recipe kits I jumped at the chance. I love cooking but it can be such a stressful process if you don’t have enough time to plan ahead and go shopping first. Gousto basically takes all the hard work out of cooking and lets you enjoy the process. There are also lots of healthy and vegetarian options available too which makes it easy to maintain a well-balanced and nutritious diet whilst still having something delicious to look forward too.
My order came carefully packed with no cracks, spillages or bruises in sight. The meat was stored in a Woolcool bag to ensure it was delivered as fresh as possible, the pantry ingredients came in a paper bag ready to be unpacked and the eggs arrived in perfect condition inside a reusable plastic container. The first recipe I ordered was Herby Pancetta Carbonara With Chives.
The box came with all the ingredients: 10g fresh chives, 40g Cornish clotted cream, 2 British free range eggs, garlic cloves, 40g Italian hard cheese, 200g linguine, 80g British pancetta lardons, 1 red gem lettuce and 1 tbsp white wine vinegar. The instructions were easy to follow and I was dead impressed that my meal actually ended up looking like the recipe card! The only mistake I made was that I accidentally cooked the sauce at to a high heat and the eggs started to scramble, but that was just my clumsiness and no way Gousto’s fault!
Next up, Peri Peri Chicken with Chips & Apple Slaw. The ingredients I was given for this recipe were: 1 lemon, 1 red chilli, 2 spring onions, 1 tbsp rich tomato paste, 1 garlic clove, 1 tbsp smoky chipotle paste, 400g potatoes, 2 mayonnaise sachets (52ml), 1 tsp Italian dried oregano, 1 tbsp white wine vinegar, 1 apple, 100g carrots and 4 British chicken thigh fillets.
This recipe was actually fun to prepare as it was so simple and stress-free. I had the radio blasting the entire time and had all my ingredients at hand; I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Also, most importantly, the finished result tasted amazing! I was so impressed with myself and I will be 100% making this again.
