The key to silky, smooth skin is a good body scrub and if it smells heavenly, well that’s just an added bonus! Optiat (now known as UpCircle Beauty) is a nature-friendly beauty company that actually uses hand-sourced Arabica coffee grounds from London’s finest cafe, bars and restaurants, proving once and for all that one person’s trash is another’s treasure. More than 55 million cups of coffee are drunk every day in the UK, and more than 500,000 tonnes of coffee grounds are sent to landfills every year! Optiat saw the opportunity to change this by creating a range of naturally-scented coffee scrubs.
But why use used coffee in a scrub? First of all, it makes for a great natural exfoliator (say goodbye to evil microbeads), it also contains the same PH level as your skin – meaning it won’t leave it dry. When combined with shea butter and almond oil it leaves skin beautifully soft and moisturised. The caffeine also helps to stimulate blood flow and is effective against cellulite, stretch marks and eczema. Coffee is also high in antioxidants which help to fight free radicals, one of the main causes of the signs of ageing. Also, well, who doesn’t want to smell like a vanilla latte?
Vanilla Velvet is a delicious treat for the skin which leaves your whole body feeling wonderfully smooth. I can’t wait for summer to show off my pasty but super soft legs. It’s simple to use, just squeeze out a dollop, scrub into damp skin and leave for five minutes. I find that you may also need to give it a little shake if it’s been standing for a while as the grounds tend to settle.
This scrub is designed to be used before bedtime as the perfect ‘me time’ treat but personally, I find it quite invigorating! If you love coffee as much as I do, then you will love the Optiat Hit The Sheets Coffee Scrub. There are also three other varieties to try: Lemongrass Lifter, Mouthwatering Mandarin and Potent Peppermint. The travel versions (90g) retail for £6.99 and the full-sized versions (220g) retail for £9.99. There are also beautiful gift sets available in their online shop too.
