Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara | Here Comes Trouble

Never has a mascara been so aptly named. The new Troublemaker Mascara from Urban Decay has definitely been ruffling a few feathers recently. The so-called ‘sex-proof’ mascara definitely makes a few big claims and customers appear to be divided. I try not to read anyone’s else review of a product before I’ve tried it, especially if we’re on the same PR list, as I don’t want it to influence my opinion, however, in this case, I just couldn’t help myself. I am wary when I read mascara reviews. We all have different lashes: some that are sparse, straight, fair or stubby, and we all look for different things. Everyone seemed to love the L’Oreal Paradise Mascara and crowned it the ‘world’s best drugstore mascara’ but it did next to nothing for my lashes. Here are my thoughts on the new Troublemaker Mascara from Urban Decay (£19.50 | 7.3g).

First of all, I love the packaging. It has seriously purply mermaid vibes, although the double-walled tube gives the illusion that there’s more product inside than there actually is. The wand reminds me of Benefit’s They’re Real, it’s huge and spikey so this mascara isn’t ideal for bottom lashes as things can get a little messy. This mascara claims to do everything; volumize, lengthen, separate and curl.

What I love about this mascara is that you can layer it up for thicker, more dramatic lashes without any clumps which is incredibly unusual. The first coat gives me slightly more volume but that second coat is where the magic happens. The wand grabs onto my lashes and in a couple of wiggles coats my lashes from root to tip perfectly adding both volume and length.

As you can tell, my lashes love it, although I do find that application can be a bit messy due to the size of the wand. That’s not really a deal breaker for me as this can easily be fixed and eyeshadow hides a multitude of sins! Although it’s not waterproof, it doesn’t flake and holds it’s volume and curl all day long. Troublemaker also comes in a handbag-friendly travel-sized tube (£9 | 3g).
