Recently, I was very kindly sent a bundle of ice princess inspired makeup from Essence’s new Metal Shock and Holographic collection. The silver package contained 8 dazzling products with some seriously frosty vibes. If you’re looking for subtle, natural-looking makeup this isn’t the post for you. This is over-the-top glamour at it’s finest. If you want to add a little sparkle to your NYE celebrations this collection is full of glittery fabulousness that won’t leave you disappointed…
Where to begin? Essence has three stunning nail products that I’m hoping to post a tutorial about very soon. As much as I love getting my nail professionally done, when I have both the money and time to treat myself, getting an appointment at this time of year in my area is virtually impossible. Essence’s collection of DIY nail art products now include Rock in a Bottle (loose silver glitter particles), Metal Shock Nail Powder (finely milled glitter powder for the ultimate mirror shine effect) and Holo Rainbow Nail Polish all available at Wilko.
One product I was seriously impressed with was the Metal Shock Eyeshadow in Moon Dust. One swipe gives an extreme and opaque metallic finish that looks absolutely beautiful. I wish it would completely dry down like my Stila Magnificent Metal & Glow eyeshadows as it can smudge and get a little messy if you’re not careful, however, for only £3.50, the pigmentation is out of this world. There are currently 7 shades available at Wilko including Second to Mars (neon pink) and Solar Explosion (intense yellow-gold).
I was also sent the Metal Art Eye and Lip Liner in Steel the Show which is incredibly similar to my Urban Decay Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner for nearly a fifth of the price, Vibrant Lash and Brow Gel Mascara in Sparkle On… (a product I admit I’ll probably never use but excites me nevertheless) and Moonlight Eyes Cream Eyeshadow in Angel (a silky eyeshadow with a soft, bouncy texture and iridescent shine that I’m hoping to dedicate a full review to in 2018).
Finally, the Prismatic Hololighter Stick in Be Unique Be A Unicorn is a creamy stick highlighter which isn’t overly glittery or greasy and glides onto your skin without disturbing your makeup underneath. It gives a magical glow which shifts between violet, green and silver as the light captures it.
There is no denying that this collection is completely over-the-top. As someone who is obsessed with anything glittery, I absolutely love it. This range is a fabulous way to experiment with the holographic trend that so many brands have jumped on the bandwagon with, without breaking the bank. Essence never fails to put the fun back into makeup and this winter inspired collection, although perhaps not the easiest to wear, is still nothing short of magical.
Essence is now available at Wilko.com with prices starting at only £1.
