As much as I love high-end makeup, I’m always on the hunt for a bargain or a dupe of my favourite products. When I think liquid eyeshadows I can’t help but be reminded of my beloved Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow collection. They really are magnificent, however, at £23 a pop I’m always looking for a more affordable alternative. When a selection of shades from the new Coconut & Metal Veil Liquid Eyeshadow Collection by Phase Zero Makeup arrived at my doorstep I had mixed first impressions. They looked a little watery in the tube and I didn’t have very high expectations. I’m happy to report that I couldn’t have been any more wrong if I tried…
I simply gave them a little shake and proceeded to swatch. Wow, the pigmentation is insane. The formula gives instant full-coverage high-impact colour that dries down quickly to give a beautiful metallic sheen. They actually remind me of the newer Stila Shimmer & Glow collection as they give maximum shimmer (and drama) without the glitter. The Metal Veil formula is thicker and feels more like a whipped formula whereas the Coconut Water version is lighter and slightly easier to blend. What I was most impressed with is how long-lasting both versions are, plus they don’t crease throughout the day.
The swatches say it all. Let’s start at the top: the two Metal Veil shades are Foxy a sunset orange and Simmer a rich burnt red. The bottom two coconut water shades are Gilded a dark gold and Romance is a beautiful champagne pink. All shades blend out easily but you need to act fast as they set very quickly and then they are seriously budge-proof.
