Essence Brighten Up! Banana Powder

I picked up the Essence Brighten Up! Banana Powder (£3) during my last Wilko haul, along with a few Colour Boost Vinylicious Liquid Lipsticks and random selection of mascaras and makeup brushes. This is the first time I’ve ever tried a ‘banana powder’ and I have to admit I’m really impressed with the results. To be completely honest, I ordered this as a bit of fun. I expected it to be a gimmicky bright yellow powder that I’d use once or twice and soon forget about…

The powder has the faintest yellow tinge to it and almost photographs completely white. It’s not chalky or powdery, it’s actually very soft and lightweight like their All About Matt Fixing Powder which I’m also a fan of. The Brighten Up! Banana Powder gives a matte finish to the skin but very slightly brightens it too. At first, I used this solely under my eyes to bake my concealer and freshen up my dark circles, however, soon I was applying a light layer all over my skin to correct any redness, set my eyeshadow primer and brighten up my whole complexion. Only a light dusting of the powder is needed, it’s not overly drying and doesn’t settle into creases.

It’s such a versatile little product which is unbelievably good value for money. There is also a Brighten Up! Peach Powder available which I’m guessing is for deeper skin tones but don’t quote me on that.
