As with every Charlotte Tilbury product ever made, the new Magic Away Liquid Concealer is a thing of beauty. As many of you know, I adore Charlotte Tilbury. Not only are her products effortlessly flawless, indulgent and beautifully packaged, adding another rose gold beauty to my collection never fails to put a huge beaming smile on my face. Call me materialistic, but surely we all have that one coveted beauty product or brand that takes pride of place on our dressing tables. What’s yours?
There are already two concealers available: The Retoucher; with a pen-style applicator and the Mini Miracle Eye Wand; a duo of eye serum and colour-correcting under-eye concealer. There’s never been a huge amount of buzz surrounding these two products and my understanding is that the coverage is quite sheer, so Magic Away was a much-needed addition to the complexion family. Magic Away is currently available in 16 shades. FYI Charlotte has also recently extended the shade range of both the Magic and Light Wonder Foundations too.
The Magic Away Concealer in Fair 1 is a medium-full coverage liquid concealer in an ivory shade designed for very pale skin with cool undertones. The sponge applicator reminds me of Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. I simply dot it on to areas that require a little more coverage, pat it in with my fingers and lock it in place with Charlotte’s Genius Magic Powder, but we’ll talk about that another time. The concealer contains Persian Silk Tree Bark Extract to fade dark circles, Palmitoyal Glycine to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and Extract of Wild Indigo to enhance the skin’s luminosity. It doesn’t crease throughout the day when set properly and blends out easily but sets quickly so you need to be on the ball.
The real question is: do I prefer it to my beloved Tarte Shape Tape? Shape Tape is thick and extremely high coverage. It lightens and mattifies. Magic Away adds more dimension to your overall look and is buildable. It gives the impression of more youthful-looking, radiant skin which Charlotte is known for. The undereye area looks tighter, brighter and fresher. If you’re a fan of slightly dewy, glowy skin I think you’d prefer Magic Away. If you want a matte doll-like finish or have very dark undereye circles I recommend Tape Shape. Either way, I’m glad to have both in my arsenal.
The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Liquid Concealer retails for £25 and is available at charlottetilbury.com.
