Recently I was lucky enough to win @laurahadley’s giveaway on Twitter and I got to chose one of the adorable Huda Beauty Obsessions Palettes as my prize. it was a difficult decision but I decided to go for the Mauve version. I adore Huda’s #FauxFilter Foundation (review here) and have added the Rose Gold Remastered Palette to my Cult Beauty basket many times, however, I always manage to talk myself out of it. It looks amazing, but I’d really like to swatch it first before investing an eye-watering £50 on it.
Everyone is talking about the new gemstone-inspired additions to the Huda Beauty Obsessions family. They do look beautiful, especially the emerald themed one, but I’m glad I had a more wearable introduction to the Huda Beauty eyeshadow collection to break me in. The Mauve Obsessions Palette is tiny, a little smaller than my husband’s wallet with each shade weighing in at just 1.1g. It contains 6 creamy mattes and 3 spectacular foil-effect shimmers in dusty rose, pink and plummy hues. I’m a sucker for a richly pigmented shimmer but these are among some of the most intense and beautiful I currently own, although you do need to use a primer underneath or they will fade ever-so-slightly throughout the day.
The shimmers are packed with glitter which can lead to a quite a bit of fallout if you go in too heavy-handed; this is definitely an eyeshadow before foundation kind of palette if you’re going for a full-on glam look. Regardless, there is an even distribution of pigment and glitter which helps them to apply effortlessly. They are very finely milled and have an almost bouncy, mouldable texture. The mattes are also easy to build and blend. They’re not overly powdery and, again, smooth and easy to work with.
I have to be honest, this will probably be one of that last warm-toned eyeshadow palettes I add to my collection. I feel like the trend is finally coming to an end and I find myself being more drawn to the shades in palettes like the Bobbi Brown Camo Lux and the jewel tones in the Urban Decay Born to Run Palette and the new Stila Vivid & Vibrant Eye Shadow Duos. Regardless, this travel-friendly palette definitely packs a punch and has been an eye-opening introduction to the Huda Beauty eyeshadow collection.
The Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Palette retails for £25 and is currently available at Cult Beauty, Selfridges and Feel Unique.
