The Bakedin Baking Club | A Baking Subscription Box

Everyone knows that I love a subscription box whether it be full of makeup, face masks, candles, alcohol or chocolate – sign me up! Bakedin is probably most well known for their cake mixes and mug cake kits. I had no idea they had a subscription service or I would have signed up months ago. The Baking Club from Bakedin is a monthly baking subscription box with a brand new recipe, created by one of the world’s finest ever pastry chefs, Michel Roux, delivered straight to your door. Each month, Baking Club members receive a baking box with a step-by-step recipe card and all the dry ingredients perfectly weighed out, plus a few handy extras such as baking paper, butter measure and piping bags. They use all the best ingredients in their kits, including award-winning local flour, Belgian chocolate and ground Madagascan vanilla…

This month’s box contained a recipe card and all the dry ingredients to make Whoopie Cakes, all I need to add was milk, butter and an egg. Each bag was clearly numbered and the steps were incredibly simple to follow. Believe me, if I can do it anyone can! I’m actually pretty impressed by how professional mine turned out considering I’ve never even eaten a Whoopie Pie, let alone made one. There is very little measuring and mess involved which meant I could concentrate on having fun and learn a few techniques along the way.

I didn’t really encounter any problems along the way as the steps are so straightforward. I have to admit, I didn’t make the 24 mini whoopie pies as suggested in the recipe. I went a bit rogue and made them bigger. Plus, I ran out of the exact amount of butter needed for my white chocolate icing so mine was very thick. I ended up just smoothing it on with a spoon rather than using the piping bag. Regardless of my little screw-ups, they turned out great! The soft cookie-like base was light, chocolatey and crumbly and the buttercream centre was thick, creamy and delicious. They kind of reminded me of an Oreo in the form of a cake. I’d definitely make them again.
