I’m going to predict that a lot of people will be talking about the new e.l.f. Cosmetics 16 Hour Camo Concealer in the upcoming weeks. When I purchased this I was actually on the hunt for the now sold out and Jeffree Starr approved, Poreless Putty Primer; a supposed Tacha Silk Canvas dupe. The 16 Hour Camo Concealer is a long-wearing, full coverage concealer available in 19 shades that retails for £5. I bought the lightest shade, Fair Rose, which is pale with pink undertones.
As with any new concealer, I immediately compare it to my two current favourites: the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Liquid Concealer and Tarte Shape Tape. It definitely has more similarities with the latter. The large doe foot applicator, designed for concealing and contouring, is almost identical to Tarte Shape Tape, plus it’s just as full coverage. The creamy formula is thick, you really need to blend it out as quickly as possible as it sets incredibly fast. If you have a dry under eye area or a lot of creasing, it can be rather unforgiving so I don’t recommend it for mature skin.
When I swatched a few shades on my arms in Superdrug I noticed that it oxidises very quickly, however, it’s actually not that bad when applied to the face. I was totally confused by this so popped onto Twitter for advice. Laura over at @LauraLouMakeup is a makeup artist and all-around beauty guru, she explained how the oils on your arm and hands can be different from that on your face which causes the product to react differently. The concealer may also be colour-correcting as the skin under your eyes has red/purple undertones it’s therefore different to the skin on your arms and hands. Basically, swatches are not the be all and end all. I really appreciate having MUAs on hand that are willing to share their expertise as let’s face it, I’ve picked up a few tips on the way but I’m basically just a girl who plays around with makeup, I’m by no means a professional and never pretend to be.
