Essence is a very underrated makeup brand, especially up here in not-so-sunny Scotland. The only place I can get my hands on their ridiculously affordable products is at Wilko.com but I’ve always had excellent service from their website. I’ve reviewed many products from the brand, some of which you can find in my latest post Top 5 Favourite Essence Products… So Far which also features their All About Matte Fixing Powder and Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer. Recently I was sent six shades from the Velvet Matte Lipstick collection, all of which are vegan-friendly, paraben-free and retail for only £2.30 each…
Essence has done a brilliant job at managing to keep the cost of the packaging to a minimum. The design is simple and chic but also practical. The coloured cap is a nice touch and even though these lipsticks don’t particularly look cheap, they are lightweight and perfect for popping in your handbag. If your poor lips are over all the super drying matte liquid lipsticks that saturated the market last year, then these could be the lipstick for you. They melt effortlessly onto the lips, giving full coverage, opaque colour from the very first swipe. The formula is hydrating and creamy, which means they will transfer throughout the day but don’t settle into fine lines. The semi-matte finish doesn’t fully dry down but it makes lips look fuller and feels very comfortable to wear.

At only £2.30 each these lipsticks are incredible value. I love that I can stock up on different shades and make the most out of my money. I was shocked by how intense the colour-payoff is and even though they are not particularly longlasting, my lips feel soft and nourished so that easily forgiven, plus they are a breeze to re-apply and easy to travel with.2
