I have a handful of favourites, however, I’ve never been what you call ‘loyal’ to a specific mascara. I purchase a new mascara every couple of months, eventually use it up or get bored with it and then move on to the next brand. I love false lash effect mascaras. My natural lashes are very fair and virtually non-existent so I want huge dramatic volume without the hassle of wonky lash bands and adhesive. I’d been eyeing up the Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara for a while but could never justify the price tag, as the last time I spent £25 on mascara it was a huge disappointment. I was lucky enough to have a SpaceNK gift card sitting so decided to treat myself…
The Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara promises to deliver lift, volume and length. The mascara’s 4D Amplifier™ brush is designed to saturate the lash in pigment and Hourglass claim that “a single stroke can be used to create red carpet-worthy lashes”. First of all, this is the most beautiful mascara I’ve ever purchased. The not-so-subtle packaging is a thing of beauty and practically screams high-end. It looks expensive, feels heavy and the design is eye-catching and practical as it sits in my hand comfortably making application a breeze.
The brush appears to be pretty standard and I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw it, as the packaging is so extravagant I was hoping for something equally aesthetically pleasing and elaborate inside. Let me just say, this is a good mascara. I can find very little wrong with it, however, I think the name is misleading. ‘Caution Extreme’ to me suggests huge, fluttery lashes ala Benefit’s They’re Real! or even my ColourPop BBF. This will give you fuller, longer, pretty lashes that are smudge-proof. It is buildable, but my inner drag queen really wanted more; especially for £25. Will I keep using it, of course! It’s a perfectly nice mascara that’s easy to apply and remove. The brush is slim enough that I can coat my lower lashes with no mess or fuss and it’s cruelty-free which is always a plus. Am I so head-over-heels in love with it that I’ll repurchase? Probably not.
