It’s been years since I’ve tried press-on nails and, wow, it’s safe to say they’ve improved dramatically. The ‘natural-looking’ French manicure sets I used to buy as a teenager had blinding white tips and jagged corners that would cut into your cuticles. The glue would end up coming loose within hours and leave a solid coating that was impossible to remove. Thankfully, the imPRESS Press-on Manicure* from Kiss is a game changer. If you have an event like a wedding coming up and you have next to no time to get ready, then you won’t regret picking up a set of these from Boots or Superdrug.
The style Bells & Whistles contains 30 nails in different sizes in a lovely springtime Tiffany blue with sparkly gold glitter accents. Inside the set, you’ll also find a prep pad (to clean and remove dirt for better adhesion), a file and a wooden stick (to push back any excess skin on your cuticles). The whole application process is reasonably quick, the step that takes the longest time is sizing up your nails and matching them all up. I definitely missized a few nails and because of this a gap was visible but only under very close inspection; completely my fault to be fair.
Each nail has an adhesive sticker, simply peel off the backing, then press down in the centre and press both sides at the same time. It couldn’t be easier and I was really surprised at how sticky the pads actually were. I had to take one of to re-centre it and it wasn’t the easiest to remove, so take your time. They felt very comfortable and despite me applying a few a little wonky, didn’t look overly fake or plastic. It’s unclear how long the imPress Press-on Manicure is supposed to last. I got a few days wear which I found impressive. I really just wanted them to stay in place throughout a wedding. I put them through a lot. We’re talking nappies, lego, showering, ceilidh dances, drunk Roxie and they didn’t budge. I started seeing a little wear and tear after I washed my hair on the third day as my hair kept catching behind a couple of them which loosened them up. I slowly peeled them off at the sides whilst watching Game of Thrones and they were off in minutes without damaging my natural nails whatsoever.
