There’s something so effortlessly glamorous about pearls. Even though they are the must-have accessory of 2019 (Harry’s spectacular Met Gala look is all the evidence you need) they tend to remind me more of Hollywood starlets such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Whenever someone mentions pearls I immediately picture Holly Golightly in her black Givenchy gown, sunglasses and pearls, sipping a cup of coffee and staring longingly into the windows of Tiffany’s; beautiful and iconic in its simplicity.Recent research has revealed the nation’s top 10 most iconic images featuring pearls, with Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ensemble in ‘Some Like It Hot’ coming out on top closely followed by Princess Diana’s signature sapphire pearl set and the famous portrait, Girl with a Pearl Earring. To celebrate the release of their heavenly new chocolates, Thorntons has recreated these famous images in music, film and pop culture, with a twist. All of the jewellery is made entirely from chocolate! Thorntons has teamed up with stylist to the stars Nisha Grewal to style the iconic looks which featured a total of 781 individual, hand-crafted chocolate pearls which took 135 hours to make. The collection is available to view here as well as a ‘behind the scenes’ video.
Thorntons Pearls can only be described as little balls of heaven. Either bite through the outer milk chocolate shell or let each one melt in your mouth to reveal a gooey salted caramel centre. It’s no surprise that the new Thorntons Pearls are morish, luxurious and sophisticated; they’re one of Britain’s most beloved confectionery brands for a reason. These would obviously make a lovely gift, however, I sat and ate the entire box I was kindly gifted once the babies had fallen asleep whilst watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race. My hair was tied up in a messy bun, I had no makeup on and I was surrounded by toys and other child-related paraphernalia, however, each delicious bite made this exhausted mama feel truly spoiled.
Thorntons Pearls are available this May in two pack sizes – 167g RRP £5 or 283g RRP £8 – exclusively in Thorntons stores and at www.thorntons.co.uk.
