Today I’m sharing with you a whole bunch of Christmas gift ideas for ‘him’. Whether that be your boyfriend, husband, grandad or brother; I think I’ve got you covered. I find buying presents for the men in my life almost impossible. I always ask them upfront what they want, however, they always answer with the same awful responses; they either don’t know or they don’t want anything. Could you imagine their faces on Christmas day if you literally bought them nothing? I think we all know better than to fall for that no matter how tempting it might be to wrap an empty box. As I mentioned, this guide is for ‘him’ but, come on, it’s 2019 and I think we can all agree that concept has become a little dated now but as these are literally all presents for my husband it made sense to categorise them in this way. Let’s dive in…
Living with my husband for over 10 years has left me with the impression that shaving is a chore that the majority of men don’t particularly look forward to. Some men (again, like my husband) slap on a bit of shaving gel, give their poor face a quick going over with a plastic razor with a slightly blunt blade and call it a day. The Personal Barber Shaving Club is a company on a mission to transform shaving from a once dreaded chore to a calming and satisfying morning ritual that sets you up for the day, leaving you feeling and looking your best possible self.
The Personal Barber Shaving Club is a shaving subscription service which would make the ultimate gift this Christmas (prices start at just £24.95), however, there are also one-off luxury kits available too such as the Classic Shaving Starter Kit featured in today’s post. The first subscription box they receive will include The Personal Barber double-edge safety razor. The traditionally styled safety razor is perfect for the beginner wet shaver. It has a balanced weight and relatively thin head for maximum control when keeping the correct angle and for maintaining light pressure. Made up of 3 parts, it is easy to take apart and replace blades. Locking system ensures blades are always placed in straight, removing the potential for user error, resulting in a consistently even cut. Your first box will also include a high-quality synthetic hair shaving brush, replacement blades, shaving soap and a selection of mystery products which can include shaving balms, pre-shave oils, colognes and styling products. No two boxes are the same and they are delivered to your door every 6 weeks.
If your fella considers himself to be a bit of a foodie, Sous Chef is an incredible website of which I’ve never seen before. Sous Chef is the home of an incredible selection of culinary delights including ingredients, equipment, tableware and gifts inspired by leading restaurants and international food. Sous Chef has literally scoured the world to bring you ingredients which are bursting with flavour, uniqueness and passion. You can find everything from Japanese sake, truffle oils and dried chillies, as well as ramen bowls, pasta makers and world cookbooks.
The website really encourages its customers to discover new techniques and experiment with exciting new ingredients and flavour combinations. The Edible Atlas Cookbook Set (£35) is the perfect gift for globetrotting foodies. The set includes Mina Holland’s The Edible Atlas: Around the World in 39 Cuisines along with 8 difficult-to-find ingredients that are a feast for the senses. The ingredients include Mulanto Chillies (Mexico), Saffron (Iran), Korean Red Pepper Powder (Korea), La Chinata Sweet Smoked Paprika (Spain), LGM Chilli Black Bean Sauce (chine), Ras El Hanout (Morocco), Slap Ya Mama Cajan Spice Blend (America) and Aleppo Pepper (Turkey). The kit also comes with a Sous Chef drawstring bag and I think you’ll agree that this is an exciting and unique twist on a traditional food hamper which I think he’d love to experiment with in the kitchen.
So to complete my eclectic selection of gift ideas, I thought I’d mention My Geek Box. Ross and I are huge geeks. We support our local comic book shop, we collect Funko Pop Vinyls, we made sure we there at the 12am viewing of Endgame with our matching Avengers t-shirts, we did a whole Deadpool photoshoot on our wedding day, I recited a buffy quote within my wedding vows and Ross’ is covered in incredible tattoos to represent all his favourite comic book characters (my favourite being his Arkham Asylum piece) so it just made sense to try a subscription service that combined all our love for television, movies, games and graphic novels.
My Geek Box is a monthly mystery subscription service which sends curated boxes full of geeky gear (4-7 collectables & an exclusive t-shirt) straight to your door for as little at £19.99. As with all subscription boxes, it can be a bit of a gamble but who doesn’t love the excitement of ripping into a mystery box to discover an array of nerdy delights?! You can also purchase one-off limited-edition boxes (available here) many of which are actually buy one get one free at the moment!
Don’t get me wrong, I completely believe that there’s a time and a place for a pack of novelty socks and a chocolate orange (in fact, they’re usually the highlight of my Christmas day) but I hope my guide has given you a little more inspiration when it comes to buying Christmas gifts for the men in your life. Don’t forget, Esty is also a wonderful online store full of homemade, personalised and unique gifts too.1
