If I had to think of one word to describe January, the Scottish word “dreich” fits perfectly. Dull, miserable and gloomy, if it weren’t for my birthday at the end of the month, I’d probably never leave the comfort of my unicorn onesie. That being said, I always get the manic obsession to clean at the start of the month. I need to organise drawers I haven’t opened in years, purchase random storage boxes, donate the girl’s old clothes and toys to the charity shop, visit the local recycling centre a million times, use an obscene amount of Zoflora and dust the entire house as well as take down all the Christmas decorations. I return back to work, Penny’s back at nursery, we get back into our routine and I usually start some kind of ridiculous health kick which will last a grand total of a week. I feel like my head is constantly buzzing and adding more tasks to a never-ending to-do list. If you struggle to switch off too, here are some products I’ve been using recently that have really helped to lift the January blues…
I had previously received a few sachets from Spacemasks in beauty boxes over the year but it wasn’t until recently I decided to treat myself to a box. A box of 5 pouches retails for £15 at Cult Beauty and you can also purchase single masks for only £3.50 each at Feel Unique. In each pouch, you’ll find a self-heating single-use eye mask which contains iron powder and essence of jasmine. The mask immediately heats up once opened and the elasticated loops on either side make sure the mask fits snuggly. The warm sensation lasts for around 15 minutes and feels heavenly. If you struggle to drift off I highly recommend you give these masks ago. I can feel myself nodding off within just minutes when I pop one on! It has a slight weight to it and it instantly feels like I’ve been transported to a spa each time I use one.
I save mine for Sunday nights, along with a bar of galaxy and fresh bedsheets soaked my Sweet Dream Pillow Spray from Feather & Down, another must buy. I’ve had the spray by my bedside since I was kindly gifted a sample back in 2017. I’ve even used it on Poppy’s cot to help her fall asleep too. The infusion of lavender and chamomile essential oils really helps to create a calming atmosphere which encourages my overactive and anxious mind to settle down. By closing my eyes and concentrating on inhaling this beautiful aroma I feel more at peace and less likely to start creating to-do lists in my head or worry about my week ahead.
